The rain has brought out the lobsters in a big way. We are finding them everywhere (in the woods, not in the open). There's a fresh crop of redhead, birch and king in the woods and in the open.
Very wonderful weekend here, a grouping of family and friends. My friends, their families.

There are still wild berries on the bushes. Not a lot of them, but enough to find a handful easily enough. Both blueberries and blackberries.
There have never been blueberries this late. It's going to be a long autumn. Part of nature is behaving like it is still July. Another spot is producing. 3 places to find them now, within 100 m of my house.
Yum. Last weekend was a successful fish weekend. Now it's full moon, so it should be good through this next couple of days as well.
Wild animals are smart. This past weekend, one fisherman inadvertently fed a snapping turtle. He left his pike in the water on a line, to stay fresh, came back to find a head. The turtle came back for seconds. http://mushroom-collecting.com/mushroomlobster.html
One of my regular mushroom hunters found some of these yesterday. It's a new one for me. Very distinctive, I'll be watching for them in the future. I keep forgetting to mention, the berry thing is huge right now. The size of the blueberries improved after the rain last Thursday. Blackberries are extremely plentiful as have been the blueberries and Sugar Plum/June Plum/Saskatoon. Raspberries are understated. Strawberries are over. Pin cherry and choke cherry are abundant. Any wine makers out there? Chokecherry makes a fabulous dry wine.
Yup, that's right. In one family. From 3 years old to 80, one family filled baskets with mushrooms, a direct result of the heavy rain last Thursday.
A great feast was had by all, shortly thereafter. I managed to pick some too, before they arrived. Chanterelles to Redhead to King, all were represented in the basket. Anyone who likes fresh wild fruit, the blueberries are perfect right now. They can be picked by the handful.
Same with the June Plums, also known as Saskatoon berries. MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............... The longest day of the year is upon us. The wild strawberries are ripening, another rain will make them luscious. Only one more mushroom so far. There is supposed to be lots of rain this week coming, that should make them bloom again. Haven't had time to go look for the chanterelles.
It's just non-stop here, and not done yet. That would explain the lack of commentary. The holiday weekend is only a week away. The loon is flying and singing in the morning, I am only hearing one. There's probably another one up at Green Lake. Fish were top feeding all day. Mushrooms! I just set out to cut the grass in the east field, and found 3 big redheads! I'm going for a walk first.
